The South Eastern Kenya University (Seku) has agreed to offer technical expertise on exploration and extraction of mineral deposits in the county.

Governor Charity Ngilu (pictured) said her administration had struck a deal with the university to facilitate training for residents in the mineral belt.

Ms Ngilu said the initiative would attract experienced Seku staff as well as specialists in the mining sector.

Speaking during a graduation of 52 artisan miners at the university over the weekend, Ngilu said other areas of collaboration would include electronics, textiles, agriculture and livestock.

“This pact will help our people and spur the economy," she said.
