Senator Moi challenges women to take lead role in fight against corruption

Kanu chairman Gideon Moi has challenged women to be in the fore front in the fight against corruption.

He asked women to take advantage of their numerical strength to push for reforms that will transform lives of Kenyans.

Speaking during celebrations achievements of Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO), Chairperson Zipporah Kittony at Sirwo hotel in Trans Nzoia County, Gideon told the women to stand up and be counted in the struggle against corruption. Gideon, who joined leaders to honour Mrs kittony, said women must champion for a transformative agenda.

“Use your numbers and be at the forefront in the fight against corruption. Stand and be counted because you have the constitutional right to participate in nation building,” the Kanu chairman said.

He said the fight against graft should not be construed to mean it is targeting individuals. “The fight is for the interest of Kenyans. Think and train about doing things for the country,” Gideon said. He challenged the political class to be selfless and commit their time to serve Kenyans. “Let us embrace politics of togetherness and shun hatred. We must demonstrate focused leadership,” he said.

The senator described Mrs Kittony as a brave leader whose contribution to the nation is unforgettable. “She has done a lot for this country, she has mentored many women and we salute her contribution,” he said.

Women leaders led by National MYWO chairperson Muiu Rahab, Trans Nzoia First Lady Lydia Khaemba and her Narok counterpart Sarah Tunai and retired Justice Effie Awour accompanied senator Moi.

Zahra Moi, the chief guest said there was need for the community to celebrate iconic leaders among women so that the young generation can emulate them.

“It is critical to celebrate our peers and Mrs Kittony is testimony of what we can achieve through commitment and hard work,” said Zahra.

Kittony attributed her achievement to hard work and commitment, which she added, were driven by desire to ensure development and improvement of women welfare. “I sacrificed a lot for the sake of women and I feel great that most women are now empowered,” Kittony said.
