Fresh boundary row between Kwale and Taita Taveta erupts at Mackinnon Road

A sign post belonging a primary school has been pulled down, sparking fears of a renewed boundary dispute.

The administrations of Taita Taveta and Kwale counties have each claimed Mackinnon Road Township long the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

Mbele Primary School, located in the township, is administered in Taita Taveta County but its title deed was issued in Kwale County.

Senator Jones Mwaruma, Voi MP Jones Mlolwa and Marungu MCA Paul Waweru blamed the Kwale leadership for the destruction of the sign post.

Mr Mwaruma said the sign post was erected by the Voi Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and had been in place for many years.

“How do you bring down a project constructed by the national government? This behaviour is a sign of provocation and will not be entertained,” he warned.

The ODM legislator said the leaders would convene a crisis meeting this week to plan the next course of action.

Mr Waweru said he had informed Governor Granton Samboja of the development.

The county director of communications, Denis Onsarigo, said there was disquiet in the border region.
