Address environmental concerns in six months or close down, MPs tell spirits maker

A parliamentary committee has accused an Athi River-based spirit maker of polluting the environment.

The National Assembly Environment and Natural Resources Committee, chaired by Kareke Mbiuki (Maara), has asked London Distillers Kenya Limited to invest in best technology, within the next six months, to curb pollution or face closure.

"The technology must maintain the highest standards of safety and healthy disposal of waste," the team said in a report tabled in Parliament on Wednesday.

Residents of Great Wall Gardens have accused the firm of emptying toxic waste into the surroundings.
