Three students held over teacher's murder in Kisumu

Three students are being held by police in Nyakach, Kisumu County over the heinous murder of a secondary school teacher on Wednesday night.

The two secondary school students and their university peer are said to have hacked to death Manase Ong’ole and injured two of his companions moments after a verbal exchange at a bar in Nyakach’s Nyamaroka trading centre.

Fidel Castro Odero, an 18-year old Form Four student at Wang’apala Secondary School, Patrick Omondi, 18 from Ramba Boys Highs School and 21-year old Moi University student Ian Agure will appear at the Ahero Law Court to face murder and assault charges.

Police at Pap Onditi were Thursday morning interrogating the three as investigations into what transpired deepened.

Koguta sub-location Assistant Chief Walter Oguche told the Standard that the men who survived the attack identified the three students as their attackers.

The two, Jared Ajowi and Steven Ongondo, are admitted at the Nyabondo Hospital and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital respectively.

According to the local administrator, the six men were merrymaking at a local bar when a disagreement ensued between the deceased and the students.

“Later at about 11pm when the teacher and his friends were heading home, their motorbike stalled midway. As they repaired it, the boys they had an exchange with confronted and attacked them, hacking one to death and injuring the other two,” said Mr Oguche.

It was not clear the cause of dispute between the secondary school teacher and the students.
