Polo: Kenya A and Zambia set for tough duel

Kenya A and Zambia yesterday staged good shows to win their matches in the International Schools Under 18 Polo Championships at Manyatta Polo Club in Gilgil.

The Zambia team comprised of handicap one Harry Millar, Nunu Henderson(0.0), Tristan Clayton(-1.0) and Ewan Pinkney(0.0) outclassed Kenya B 6-3.5, who started the match with an advantage of 2.5 goals from their low handicap.

Kenya A were made to struggle before overcoming Kenya C 8-6.5 in a fast-paced match. Zambian captain Harry Millar predicted a tough game against Kenya A whom he described as having strong players compared to Kenyan teams.

“We face a huge task against Kenya A tomorrow (today). It’s a team that has high quality players as opposed to the rest of their second and third string squads. Our team is determined  to overcome Kenya A after the two victories,” Millar said.

“It will be tough against Kenya A but we are equal to the task. We hope to defend our title,” said Clayton.

Kenya B gave a good account of themselves in the first chukka where they tied 1-1 through goals by Amani Nzomo of Kenya B and Millar of Zambia. But the Zambians overcame Kenyans in the last two chukkas.

Zambians scored the last three goals in the final chukka in less than two minutes through Hendersen (Nunu)-two and one by Clayton(Tristan) after Millar and Clayton had scored two goals. [Ben Ahenda]
