Ex-400m hurdles World Champions Nicholas Bett

Former 400m hurdles world champion Nicholas Bett has been laid to rest.

Hundreds of mourners flooded Bett’s Simat home in Uasin Gishu County on Thursday morning for his final send-off.

He died on Wednesday, August 8 in a grisly road accident along the Lessos-Kapsabet road as he went back home. He was fresh from representing Kenya at the 21^st African Athletics Championships in Nigeria.

Deputy President William Ruto, Inspector General Joseph Boinet, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago and Lands CS Faridah Karoney were among the dignitaries who graced the event.

Asbel Kiprop, Kipchoge Keino and Eliud Kipchoge were also among the top athletes who were present.

Bett leaves behind a legacy, being the first ever Kenyan athlete to win a medal in sprints at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in China.
