Uasin Gishu women volleyball team beat Laikipia 3-0 while their male counterparts thrashed Busia County to qualify for the last 16.
Muranga and Nairobi teams had by yesterday evening also qualified for the last 16 matches to be played today.
In women basketball, Nairobi and Machakos will face off in the first semi final while Uasin Gishu and Bungoma go head to head in the second tie today morning.
In the men’s category Nakuru will play Bungoma while Kiambu encounter Uasin Gishu County.
Nairobi continued with their good run by beating Machakos County 56-20 in the semi final while Uasin Gishu dismissed Bungoma 46-23 in the other semi.
In badminton being played at Cardinal Otunga High School Mosocho, defending champions Nairobi County dismissed West Pokot, Laikipia and Nyeri counties by 3-0 each in the preliminaries to reach quarter finals from pool B.
Uasin Gishu smacked Meru, Muranga and Embu counties to also reach quarter finals from Pool D while hosts Kisii County in pool C beat Nyamira and Kitui Counties in men and women singles as well as male doubles.
Mombasa beat Kericho County 3-0 in group A in a game that 21 teams had registered. However, Kisumu, Bungoma, Tharaka Nithi, Bomet and Ministry of Sports did not turn up.
Kisii County table-tennis team qualified for the quarters after finishing on top of their group.
The organising committee postponed track events that were slated for yesterday morning. The Secretary General Muraya Kabiri said this was due to unavoidable circumstances.
“We will play football, netball and volleyball finals today and we expect to have athletics on Friday and Saturday,” said Kabiri.
In the cultural events, most counties presented their folk songs yesterday and are expected to join the stage today for the Cultural dances.
Host Governor James Ongwae, his deputy and a host of Senators who are participating at the games attended most of the matches being played at Gusii stadium.
Deputy Governor Joash Maangi said the games had revived the sporting spirit that was almost dying in the region.
