The University of Embu partnered with Embu College in areas of academics and research in a bid to improve quality of education in the county.

The agreement will enable college students to pursue degree programmes at the University at a higher entry level, as well as enjoy other discounts in tuition fee.

University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Daniel Mugendi said college students will have a clear path to transit to and pursue programmes offered by the university and start at may be second year.

The VC said the two institutions are expected to align their programmes and curriculum to ensure that there is smooth transition from the college to the university.

“Other areas of collaboration include staff training, especially in academic and research to help come up with new innovations for the benefit of the community,” he said.

He said such programmes are part of the many collaborations and linkages the institution has with other colleges across the globe, adding that they will help it improve their programmes to meet learner’s needs.

Students from the two institutions will also enjoy extra-curricular activities and share facilities including libraries, play grounds and community extension work.

The proprietor and Chairman of Embu College Kithinji Kiragu, welcomed the move, saying it would improve the quality of education and motivate many diploma holders in the County to pursue degree programmes.

“In many advanced democracies, decorated universities are supported and surrounded by community colleges and through partnerships, students are able to pursue degree programmes of their choice. This helps in boosting the education standards of such countries,” he said.
