Has an outspoken MP come out to support conmen?

An MP believed to be supporting a criminal gang preying on mobile phone owners and popularly known as ‘confirm’ has shocked WhatsApp group members when he openly came out to support the criminal gang that operates in his constituency.

He wrote: “All young people are encouraged to be innovative. Sasa hawa wanafanya hivyo (so those conning people),” what is the crime in this,” he posed.

He continued “Inaitwa lugha ikiingia box unalaumu nani sasa? (It is called coning game. When you have been conned who do you blame?” He wrote again. The legislator did not stop there; he added that he was thinking of registering the group of conmen as a company - ndio vijana waache kusumbuliwa (so that the youth will not be arrested). “Why the guys are taken to court, they are normally set free because there are no witnesses?” He wrote.

The MP has on two occasions stood surety for the conmen - paying their cash bails.

The question is, is the MP a beneficiary of the proceeds?
