The man accused of impersonating Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege has requested the court to release him on bail.

Wazir Chacha was charged on Monday with six counts of conspiracy to defraud and impersonation.

Mr Chacha appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Francis Andayi where he denied all the counts.

Through his lawyer Job Ngeresa, Wazir told the court that prosecution had failed to demonstrate that they faced difficulties while arresting him.

He said that he is a son of a former Mayor from Kuria and he has a brother who lives at Donholm Nairobi, therefore, he cannot be a flight risk. He added that the affidavit filed by Investigation Officer John Kiprop does not indicate how he will interfere with the witnesses.

Lawyer Ngeresa said Chacha had a right to be granted bail according to the law and that the charges he is facing are unproven allegations.

He said claims by the prosecution that Chacha has no fixed abode were misplaced. Prosecutor John Kiprop opposed the release of the accused on bail claiming that he would abscond.

“The suspect is a flight risk and was arrested under a warrant of arrest,” said Kiprop.

The courts will rule on the bail application on April 12, 2018.
