Governor Joho disputes audit queries, alleges reporting bias

Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho

The Mombasa County Government has disputed claims of flouting fiscal management regulations.

Richard Chacha, the spokesman for Governor Hassan Ali Joho Friday said media reports had revived old fiscal queries from the 2013/2014 fiscal year.

Chacha said The Standard quoted a Senate audit report for the 2014/2015 financial year which was based on “a raw audit report” compiled by auditors in the 2013/2014 fiscal year before the county government had responded to the queries.

He noted that the report was designed to ridicule the governor by “depicting his administration as corrupt” based on erroneous and outdated information.

In the Senate Report, it was alleged that the Joho administration had spent millions of shillings collected from the Coast General Hospital without banking it. The report also alleged that the county administration was not depositing revenue in the County Treasury and was operating 22 revenue accounts.

“The County Government has already responded to all the queries and filed the same with the Senate public accounts committee,” the governor said.
