TSC pulls out of Knut mediation talks, cites bias

A teachers' union could soon issue a strike notice after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) yesterday pulled out of arbitration talks, citing bias.

In a complaint to Labour Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattan, TSC said the mediation process was skewed to favour the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut).

The commission's Chief Executive Officer, Nancy Macharia, told Mr Yattan that the process was not transparent and accused Hellen Maneno, the conciliator, of engaging in partisan meetings with Knut.

“The Commission reiterates that due to its fidelity to the law, it shall not participate in the process which is tainted with irregularities and illegalities,” she said.

This means Knut can push for a certificate of disagreement at the Ministry of Labour and issue a strike notice.
