Coast Region secondary schools hockey champions Bura Girls are aiming at finishing within the medal bracket at the national games next month.

Bura's head coach Martin Otieno said he would be making his second appearance at the games and wanted to have a happy ending.

He said he had guided the girls through rigorous training sessions to prepare them for the games.

“We did not make any serious impact in our debut last year, but we are optimistic of going through to the semi-final in this year's campaign,” said Otieno.

“We have yet to concede a goal or lose any match. From our first match at the sub-county level, we have maintained a winning streak through to the regional games. We hope to extend the good run to the national games,” he added.

The coach said two of his dependable players, Debra Masubo and Hidaya Louzy, who did not feature at the Coast Region games due to injuries, had recovered and were back in the squad.

Bura are in the same pool with Shinyolo, Tigoi, and Moi Marsabit.

“I can vividly recall we lost 4-0 to Sinyolo in last year's final but we are ready to show them dust,” added Otieno.

“I have been with Bura since 2011 and I can confidently say that I have a better side than last year's." [Ernest Ndunda]
