Schools: Menengai win rugby, basketball

Hosts Menengai High School defeated Musingu from Kakamega County 41-6 to lift the 15s rugby title during the Menengai Open Schools Championships at the weekend.

Briton Maluki, the man of the match, scored two tries in the first half followed by two more by Austin Sikutwa and Davies Ochieng, with a conversion from Bonaventure Wasonga for the winners to lead 24-6 at the break.

In the second half, Maluki was on the mark again when he touched down before Davies Nyaundo added two more conversions in the one-sided encounter played under a scotching sun.

On their way to the finals, Menengai walloped Coulson 58-0 while Musingu stopped Bwake from Trans Nzoia County 18-0.

In the play-offs, Bwake shot down Coulson 42-10 in the two-day tournament that attracted seven secondary schools from around the country.

Jomo Kenyatta of Nakuru County dismissed Menengai 3-1 to lift the boy’s hockey title.
