A 25-year-old man will spend the rest of his life in jail for defiling an eight-year-old girl.

Boniface Nangabo Suma was found guilty of committing the offence on December 26, 2016 in Emulomonye village.

He was also found guilty of indecently touching the private parts of the minor.

Suma had denied the charge. The prosecution had five witnesses. Senior Resident Magistrate Erick Malesi said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The minor, who lives with her grandmother, had been left at home alone when Suma went to their house.

The girl said he locked the house and covered her mouth, to prevent her from screaming, and defiled her.
