The Sh400 million home in Nyeri Lucy Kibaki never occupied

• At the end of his presidency, the government built former president Mwai Kibaki a Sh400 million mansion in Nyeri
• The late First Lady Lucy Kibaki never settled in the house, only visiting while it was still under construction
• The house sits on a 100 acre piece of land and boasts of a helipad, Jacuzzi and canteen for employees

As the sun was setting on Mwai Kibaki’s presidency, the government offered to build him a retirement home in his Nyeri backyard.

Plans to construct the house started in 2010 when President Kibaki travelled to Nyeri to identify the land where it would stand.
