An armed suspect was gunned down after he broke into AP Commissioner Robinson Ndiema’s house in Kapenguria, West Pokot County.

The incident occurred on Friday at about 9pm, and led to an exchange of fire between the police and the man, whom officers said was a robber, and four others.

Gun shots lasting close to two hours could be heard in the area as police tried to thwart theft attempts by the suspects.

West Pokot County Commander Benson Maina said one of the suspects escaped into the darkness.

The suspects did not steal anything after the alarm was raised.

“The commissioner had gone for a pass leave when the thugs broke into his house... They took advantage of the commissioner’s absence to break in,” Maina said.

Ndiema said that last week, robbers also tried to break into his house. “The suspects must be well known people living with us within the AP camp.

We have boys staying in the camp whose fathers retired and we suspect they are involved,” said Ndiema.
