Provision of health services has resumed in all public facilities in Kirinyaga County after Governor Ann Waiguru struck a deal with the striking nurses.

Waiguru said the move was a relief to the area residents who have been seeking health services in private hospitals.

She said the deal was struck on Thursday after lengthy consultations and intense lobbying with the workers representatives.

“One of the per-conditions the nurses gave before resuming duties was that none of them should be victimised for engaging in the four month long strike,” she said.

The County Director of Medical Services Dr Esbon Gakuo confirmed that services have resumed.

“After the nurses resumed duties on Mashujaa Day all our hospitals are now fully operational,” the medic said.

A spot check by the Standard on Sunday confirmed that patients were visiting the hospitals in large numbers.
