Police have arrested a 31-year-old man who posted a message on Facebook calling for the shooting of protesters during anti-IEBC demonstrations.

David Ochieng Omondi was arrested while he was in his house in Githurai, Nairobi on Tuesday.

The suspect posted the messages on Facebook, accompanied by a picture of himself holding an AK47 rifle saying he would “take down as many people as possible” during the protests.

Police on Wednesday produced him in court and were allowed to detain him for 15 days before they prefer charges against him.

During a raid at the suspect’s house, police spokesman George Kinoti said, they recovered three rounds of 9mm ammunition, commonly used in pistols. But a family friend claimed police planted the bullets there.

“We wish to warn others abusing the Social Media to post hate/ inflammatory messages that we are on the watch and will deal firmly with them in accordance with the law,” said Kinoti.

NASA has been staging anti-IEBC protests against the electoral body to push for the implementation of irreducible minimum reforms.

Police are however yet to arrest another man who had been posing as a policeman and threatening opposition leaders. The impostor using a fake Facebook account had issued death threats to opposition leaders. The impostor using the name Kipchirchir Alfie had been posting offensive messages on his account.
