A 36-year-old herdsmen was jailed for 15 years for attempting to defile a 10-year-old girl two years ago.

Dominic Kiambi from Tatua in Buuri sub-district was found guilty of attempting to defile the minor on May 3, 2015 in a bush where they were both herding cattle.

The child had told the court that she met the accused as they both grazed livestock. She testified that the accused attempted to commit a sexual act on her before she fled and informed her parents.

Chief Magistrate Lucy Ambasi ruled that the evidence produced in court showed the accused had indeed tried to coerce the minor into a sexual act.

"From the evidence, the accused is obviously a threat to children," she ruled, and gave him 14 days to appeal the sentence.
