Kenya’s Under-20 women’s team beat visitors Ethiopia 2-1 in the return leg of the 2018 Fifa Under-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier round one at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos yesterday.

The victory steered Kenya into the second round with a 4-3 aggregate and they will face either Ghana or Algeria.

Corazone Aquino opened the scores in the 11th minute with Merkat Teleke equalising in the 45th minute. Jentrix Shikangwa added a second for Kenya in the 51st minute.

The Kenyan side started the match on a high note with Cythia Shilwatso setting up Jentrix Shikangwa, but her shot was weak as Ethiopia’s goalkeeper Tigisi Abera easily stopped it in the second minute.

Aquino then tried her luck with a  long range effort in the fourth minute with little success.

Kenyans mounted a wave of attacks, which forced the visitors to concede two consecutive free kicks.

In the 11th minute, Ethiopia conceded a free that Aquino took, but Martha Amunyolete headed wide. Within a short time, Aquino was on target as she fired a thunderbolt to give the hosts the lead.

Kenya was at it again only that Shilwatso failed to connect the ball in what saw Ethiopian defenders sending the ball out for a corner.

Shikangwa could have added a second for Kenya at the half hour mark but her shot went wide.
