Governor Kinyanjui under pressure over cabinet appointments

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui is under pressure to name his Cabinet.

Various stakeholders, political players and loyalists have warned the governor against ignoring affirmative action and youth.

And as lobbying intensifies, Governor Kinyanjui has already violated the provision in the County Government Act on submission of the list of appointees to the County Assembly for vetting.

According to Section 42 (2) (2) of the County Government Act, the constitution of a new executive committee after an election under subsection (1) shall be finalised within 21 days of the swearing-in of the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs). The MCAs were sworn-in on September 7.

Governor Kinyanjui has promised to unveil his line-up on Monday. This is likely to cause uproar at the Assembly due to the lapse of the legal timelines.

Nakuru being a cosmopolitan county, Kinyanjui - who promised an all-inclusive government - is expected to do a delicate balancing act to please all players.

“I am aware of magnitude of the challenge I am facing. The Public Service Board is currently short-listing applicants for the executive committee and chief officers' posts," he told the Saturday Standard on Friday.

He is yet to set up his new team after dismissing six senior officials and more than 150 administrators.
