Gor Mahia consolidated their position at the top of the Kenyan Premier League with a 2-0 away win against champions Tusker in Kericho as Kakamega Homeboyz dealt Sofapaka’s title hopes a huge blow by beating ‘Batoto Ba Mungu’ 2-1 at Mumias Sports Complex, yesterday.

The results saw Gor (54 points), who have a game in hand, open a 12-point gap over joint second placed Sofapaka and Homeboyz.

Rwandese import Meddie Kagere broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when he comfortably connected with George Odhiambo’s cross.

The pair then reversed the roles with Kagere teeing up Odhiambo for K’Ogalo’s second goal 13 minutes after the break.

In Mumias, Kakamega Homeboyz continued with their impressive home run after stunning Sofapaka 2-1.

Prolific striker Umaru Kasumba put ‘Batoto Ba Mungu’ ahead in the 17th minute, but Wycliffe Opondo returned to haunt his former employers with an equaliser on the stroke of halftime.

Jeremiah Wanjala then delivered a hammer blow to the visitors’ title hopes with what turned out to be a match-winning goal in the 54th minute.

Sofapaka piled pressure on Homeboyz’s backline seeking an equaliser, but Mike Mururi’s men held their nerves to take their eighth home win and extend unbeaten run to 12 matches.

At Ruaraka Grounds, Posta Rangers registered their fourth draw on the trot after sharing the spoils with relegation-threatened Thika United in a 1-all tie.

The Mailmen went in front in the 23rd minute through Jerry Santo’s header from Luke Ochieng’s long throw-ball.

However, the former Kenyan international’s celebration was short lived as Suleiman Ngotho latched onto a loose ball from a corner kick to restore parity.
