Three family members burnt to death in Nairobi’s Dandora fire

Three people were found burnt to death in a fire incident in Nairobi's Dandora estate

Three people including a child were found burnt to death in a fire in Nairobi's Dandora estate.

The other two are believed to be the parents of the child. Police say they were informed of the fire on Wednesday morning.

It is not clear what caused the fire but investigations have been launched, Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome said. Koome said the bodies were badly burnt.

"Some neighbours say they know the couple and child but for now we want to know how and why the fire started," he said.

Koome said they wanted to establish if the fire  was act of arson or an accident. He added the incident could also be suicide.

Cases of fire outbreak have been on the rise with slow response from the fire department. The fire fighters blame various issues including lack of proper communication from victims, poor road network and lack of  resources. The fires affect many informal settlements almost weekly leaving many homeless.

On Tuesday, Governor Mike Sonko met officials from the Fire Department and asked them to explain the challenges they have in delivering their mandate.
