Here are Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga's recent comments on the presidential election petition

Chief Justice David Maraga has warned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Raila Odinga and resident Uhuru Kenyatta of commenting about the presidential election petition in public.

This warning resulted after increased public discussion, online and offline, making NASA and Jubilee affiliated politicians take sides on the merits of the petition before it is actually heard in court.

"The public should avoid making statements that are intended to direct the court on the conduct of the petition, " said the Supreme Court judges.

Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga have however in the past (not so long ago) made comments about the presidential election petition but will not be charged as the court had not yet issued the directive by this time.

Here is a sample of the comments made by the Jubilee Party leader and the NASA flag bearer.

Uhuru Kenyatta:

During the swearing in of new Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, he challenged Raila to concede defeat like outgoing Governor Isaac Ruto.

Uhuru has publicly argued that the fact that Jubilee Party secured a majority in both Houses of Parliament and Governors' seats proved that he won the presidential race.

During a memorial service for his father, Jomo Kenyatta, Uhuru told the church that he was confident of winning the Supreme Court petition against his re-election.

Uhuru also said that God would give him victory against National Super Alliance's Raila Odinga and after he is done with the case, he would invite the church to celebrate with him and embark on the work he had started.

Raila Odinga:

While filing the petition, Raila said the case provides the opportunity for the Supreme Court to 'redeem itself' by correcting the mistakes they made when handling a similar petition in 2013.

During the swearing in of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, he stated that NASA would not accept a one-minute and one-paragraph judgement on its petition and that each of the seven judges must give the reasoning behind their verdicts.

Raila has also stated that he will accept the court's decision if it contains a detailed reasoning of all judges.

He also said that the Supreme Court's decision will not be final and that NASA will mobilise the public to fight the culture of political impunity.
