Mudanyi happy with early lead: Weekend clubs round-up

It’s a tight race at Vet Lab as golfer’s battle for honours in Kabete Open tourney.

Edwin Mudanyi took advantage of playing at his home club as he came from behind to lead in Day Two of the 2017 Kabete golf Open at the weekend.

Mudanyi had 147 gross for the deserved lead at the par 72 Vet Lab course in Nairobi.

The golfer posted a four over par 76 gross in the first round same as Great Rift Valley’s Simon Njogu and club mates Robinson Owiti and Isaack Makhoha.

In the second round, Mudanyi produced the day’s best score of one under par 71 gross as the tournament entered the third final round of the 54-hole event.

“This is my home course and it is playing well. I hope to clinch the trophy after the final round,” said Mudanyi.

The tournament that attracted 81 amateurs is organised by the Kenya Golf Union and counts towards the Kenya Amateur golf championship calendar.

Mike Kisia, also from Vet Lab, is second on 148 gross (72, 76), while Royal’s Jay Sandhu, who had 149 gross (77, 72) is third.

Tying fourth on 150 gross each is Royal Kevin Juma and Vet Lab’s John Mburu, while Nyali’s Agil Is Haq, on 151 gross (80,71), enters the final round in fifth spot.

Others include; Samuel Njoroge-Railways (152), John karichu-Limuru (152), Mutahi Kibugu-Muthaiga (153) and Paul Muchangi-Limuru (153).
