Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero's bid to retain his seat in the upcoming August 8 election received a boost after being endorsed by a section of the Kamba community.

In return, the incumbent said once he is done with his second term, he will 'pay back' by supporting his deputy for the seat come 2022.

Addressing members from various Kamba Welfare Associations including business groups, Kidero said so far, his Deputy Jonathan Mueke has proved to be the ideal candidate for the job.

He assured the Kamba community that he will not only rally behind Mueke for the governor seat but also National Super Alliance(Nasa) Co principal Kalonzo Musyoka for the country's top job.

According to an agreement signed by NASA co principals, if Presidential candidate Raila Odinga wins the August 8 election, then his deputy Kalonzo should be the flag bearer come 2022.

"I assure you, once I finish my term it will be Mueke's turn. I am promising you that we shall rally our people behind Mueke and Kalonzo in 2022," said Kidero.

Kidero, who was accompanied by Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama criticized his rival Mike Sonko for doing 'so little' in his tenure as the city senator.

"I urge you to vote for Kidero. If Sonko was really a Kamba as he claimed, he should have come out to meet you earlier," said Deputy Governor Mueke.

Other leaders in the event were ODM Woman Representative Candidate Esther Passaris, Edwin Sifuna who seeks to unseat Sonko as next senator among others.

This is Kidero's second meeting this year with members of the Kamba community in a bid to woo their votes. In May, he met with 100 Kamba elders.

The retaining of Mueke as his running mate is seen as a move to cement his win considering that the community does make a sizable number of residents in the city.

The leaders took the stage to criticize the alleged plan by the government to get involved in the upcoming election.

"Jubilee knows very well that they cannot win without rigging. The only way supporters will attend Jubilee rallies is because they get paid. But they should know come August 8, we will not be afraid of the military and their guns," said Muthama.
