Dandora residents disarm Jirongo bodyguard in weekend gun drama

One of the bodyguards seconded to presidential candidate Cyrus Jirongo was at the weekend arrested and disarmed by a mob in Dandora.

The officer was at an apartment in Phase Three and was walking out when he picked a quarrel with a man there.

Witnesses said this prompted a confrontation that saw him draw his pistol and shoot in the air twice. But as he tried to leave, a mob chased and caught up with him.

Police said officers were attracted by the gunshots and responded.

It was later discovered that the man was part of Mr Jirongo's security detail and had been visiting a friend in the area before the incident happened.

He was taken in for questioning as the crowd bayed for his blood. Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome said they were investigating the incident.
