Body of missing Baringo chief found dumped in bush

Grisson Kokoo

The body of an administrator in Baringo South who went missing two days ago has been found in a thicket.

Ng'elecha location's chief Grisson Kokoo disappeared on Tuesday evening and his body was found Wednesday morning riddled with bullet wounds.

Family members claim Kokoo was called to Ng'elecha police post at around 6pm but failed to return home.

Efforts to reach him through his mobile phone were unsuccessful as it was switched off.

The body was found a few kilometres from the police post and had gunshot wounds on the stomach and head. It was taken to Nyahururu hospital mortuary.

Gunshot wounds

"We suspect that the chief was killed and later dumped in the thicket because his body had gunshot wounds," said a relative.

The family asked the police to conduct quick investigations into the death.

"We need to know what transpired that led to the death," added the relative.

When reached for comment, Baringo County Commissioner Peter Okwanyo said he was not aware about Kokoo's death.

Mr Okwanyo said he learnt through social media that the body of the chief had been recovered in a bush.

"Most of the time the chief used to reside in Laikipia, despite being an officer in Baringo," he said.
