Independent candidate hires 300 polling agents for NASA

Homa Bay gubernatorial independent candidate Joseph Oyugi

Independent governorship candidate Oyugi Magwanga has recruited 300 polling agents to help guard the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential votes in next month's election.

Mr Magwanga, who is also the outgoing Kasipul MP, said the agents would complement the implementation of NASA's adopt-a-polling station programme.

The move now means NASA will have at least six agents in polling stations in the county guarding the presidential vote.

Magwanga, who is seeking to unseat governor Cyprian Awiti, said he would be at the forefront in guarding Raila's votes in the region as well as ensuring people turn out in large numbers to vote.

Raila backyard

"We all want Raila to be president and that is why we must marshal support in his backyard to ensure we realise that goal," said Magwanga.

He noted that the adopt-a-polling station was an incredible strategy that would help bar Jubilee from rigging the polls as well as ensure that the region records maximum voter turnout.

He urged all aspirants to mobilise their supporters to embrace the ideology.

His comments came a day after Raila rallied the region to unite and deliver over 95 per cent turnout in his favour in the August 8 polls. On Monday, Raila urged residents to consolidate support in his backyard.[Harold Odhiambo]
