Thief loses thumb in botched robbery in Taita Taveta

A suspected robber lost his left thumb in a botched robbery attempt in the county on Thursday.

However, the suspect still managed to escape with body and head injuries. A senior police officer who visited the scene said they are preserving the thumb as they carry on with investigations.

Taita Sub-County OCPD Benjamin Muhia said the suspect, who is still at large, raided an M-Pesa shop at Kitukunyi Trading Centre and attacked Emmanuel Mwakai Msakamale, the shop owner, with an iron bar leading to a struggle.

But in his defence, Mr Msakamale struck the suspect with a panga and chopped off his finger. Police are seeking the public's help in tracking down the suspect.

"We have also informed all public and private hospitals and asked them to alert the police should anyone with a missing thumb seek treatment," said Mr Muhia.
