Governor Peter Munya has taken a swipe at Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential ambition.

Sunday, Mr Munya criticised an arrangement to have Ruto as President Uhuru Kenyatta's running mate in this year's election in exchange for Uhuru's backing in 2022.

Munya said the presidency did not belong to Central Kenya and Rift Valley regions alone, and that it was not meant to be exchanged between two major tribes at the expense of other regions.

The governor's sentiments were supported by Tigania West MP David Kariithi, who suggested Baringo Senator Gideon Moi as Munya's presidential running mate in 2022.

Mr Kariithi claimed the DP had already settled on someone else as his 2022 running mate. He said Meru County was not part of Ruto's presidential plan.

Speaking when he campaigned in Kiirua and Timau towns, Munya said he was determined to win the presidency in 2022, arguing that the Meru community had supported their Central region cousins in past presidential elections, and it was their (Meru's) turn for the seat.
