Kobala Mixed are through to the girls' football semifinals of the Airtel Rising Stars National Secondary Schools Term Two B games.

The 2015 finalists yesterday defeated 2013 champions Olympic Mixed 1-0 to book their place in the last four at the championships at Moi Nyeri Complex.

Annet Matinde's 68th minute goal separated the two sides giving the Nyanza Region champions their second win in Group B and a place in the semis.

Olympic players opposed the goal, saying it was scored from an off-side position, but centre referee Raphael Waweru was not interested.

Kobala captain Maxmilla Robi is optimistic of leading the side to the final. "Our first target was to qualify for the knockout stage. That achievement has given us confidence ahead of the semis," Robi said.

Kobala defeated Utithi Eastern 2-1 in their opening match. They top the group with six points ahead of their last preliminary match against Njabini today. Njabini are second with four points.

Olympic's chances of qualifying for the semis are fast dwindling following that loss. Olympic are third in the group with one point after their 2-2 draw with Njabini in their opening match. Olympic must beat Utithi by a bigger margin in their final match today and hope second-placed Njabini lose to Kobala.

Njabini beat Utithi 2-1, while Upper Hill and St Anthony's drew 1-1 in the boys' matches.
