Police arrested 27 youths from Muhoroni who were allegedly armed with crude weapons.

The police believe they wanted to interrupt an ODM rally in Rabuor, Nyando sub-county. The suspects were allegedly planning to disrupt a rally where Nyando MP and ODM senatorial candidate Fred Outa was launching his bid.

The rally was attended by several ODM officials. Nyando OCPD Amin Mohammed said machetes, knives, and rolls of bhang were recovered from "visibly intoxicated" youths when police intercepted the pickup ferrying them at Lela in Ahero Town.

"Police officers acting on a tip-off managed to nab them a few kilometres from the venue of the rally," he said.

They were later booked at Ahero Police Station and will appear in court. Mohammed lauded the public for being vigilant. He said the tip-off averted a possible bloodshed that would have triggered fears ahead of polls.
