After our SportPesa Super Cup exit, vengeance really belongs to the Lord!

I am in an unenviable position as a writer today. Instead of penning an ode for my beloved Ingwe, I am begrudgingly congratulating our rivals, Gor Mahia, on winning the maiden Sportpesa Super Cup in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania!

I am also wounded by the fact that Ingwe not only lost 3-0, but failed to make use of the golden opportunity to seek revenge for the past misdeeds Gor Mahia have visited on us.

Ingwe players were not at their usual best or perhaps turned religious enough to allow Gor to run riot in the cup final. It seemed they accepted the verse that says: "... vengeance belongs to the Lord."

This was supposed to be a mouthwatering derby. A possible opportunity for Ingwe to end their trophy drought since 2013. It was also a chance to avenge previous losses to Gor (including two previous losses on foreign soil in the Cecafa Club Championships of 1980 and 1985).

It was an opportunity to redeem Ingwe's lacklustre image this season; earn bragging rights and make history for landing a chance to play against the English Premier League's Everton in Tanzania next month.

On their way to the final, Ingwe defeated Tanzania's Singida and league champions Yanga. The only cause for concern was a blunt forward line as the team was unable to score any goals against Yanga after 90 minutes, but secured one against Singida to draw level.

Leopards won both games through post-match penalties. Gor, on the other hand, won against Jang'ombe and Nakuru All Stars on an identical 2-0 score. But in all fairness, Gor's opponents were 'minnows' compared to the likes of Tanzanian giants Yanga.

The loss aside, Ingwe's new coach Dorian Marin has taken over. In her previous article, my shemeji Beryl incorrectly postulated that Gor were responsible for coach Stewart Hall's departure. This was a case of a man under pressure from other quarters to go home and he was avoiding trouble in his lair!

Beryl, you know how hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! Secondly, Ingwe holds the record for 'sending' away Gor's coaches.

In March last year, Ingwe ended Gor's 35-match unbeaten run and two days later, coach Frank Nutall resigned! 

Case closed!
