Nakuru Governor, Kinuthia Mbugua, has withdrawn from the county’s top seat race in favour of Jubilee nominee and former NTSA chairman, Lee Kinyanjui.

President Uhuru Kenyatta made the announcement at State House, Nakuru, after a meeting with Jubilee Party from the area.

Governor Kinuthia, who was present during the meeting, was eyeing the seat as an independent candidate after he was defeated in the Jubilee Party primaries by Mr. Kinyanjui.

Kinyanjui clinched the Jubilee Party ticket after garnering 216,387 votes against Kinuthia Mbugua’s 150,137 votes while former NACADA boss John Mututho was a distant third with 30,487 votes.

Both Lee Kinyanjui and John Mututho – who previously served as MPs Naivasha and Nakuru Town constituencies respectively – have not publicly announced their intended running mates.
