Former President Mwai Kibaki gave glowing tribute to his former minister, Daudi Mwiraria, saying he had lost a great friend, confidant, and a co-worker.

He spoke Thursday when he joined Mwiraria’s family and friends during his funeral service at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi.

Mwiraria died last week at the Karen Hospital in Nairobi.

The former Treasury technocrat, Democratic Party MP, and Finance minister, born on September 3, 1938, suffered from bone cancer.

Mwiraria was in the Finance docket from January 2003 to February 2006 in Kibaki’s administration.

The message was delivered by the former president’s daughter, Judy, on behalf of the Kibaki family.

Kibaki termed Mwiraria a “trusted ally whose diligence, humility, and forthrightness were rare as he was able to rally people of diverse persuasions to a common cause”.

He added that the former minister was endowed with leadership skills and know-how, particularly in economic matters that were needed in the country.

Head of Civil Service Joseph Kinyua described Mwiraria as a dedicated person who gave his best.
