Bishop Pius Muiru’s mother found murdered

Muranga: The mother of Bishop Pius Muiru has been found dead a day after she was reported missing.

Cecilia Wangari Mwangi's body was found buried in a shallow grave in her rural home in Murang'a by detectives investigating the matter.

A watchman guarding the home is now in custody after he allegedly confessed committing the heinous crime and led police to where he had buried the body. Also in police custody is a daughter in law.

"We want to follow the matter and interrogate all those who will be mentioned," said the detective.

Sources told The Standard that a mobile phone transaction led to the arrest of the watchman believed to have killed and secretly buried the 73-year-old woman in Karega village in Kigumo.

The guard was nabbed after it emerged that he was in possession of the elderly woman's phone and had transferred Sh95 to his phone.

The man is said to have transferred money to his phone on Tuesday evening more than 24 hours after the woman was reported missing.

Her disappearance probe narrowed down to the guard who was on duty when she was reported missing.

It emerged that he was interrogated by police on Wednesday night after which the guard led them to a site within the farm family land where he had buried the body.

Police exhumed the body and moved it to the mortuary as investigations continued.
Murang'a county police commander Ms Naomi Ichami confirmed the guard was in custody and was being interrogated.
