Seven members of the Embu Council of Elders have called for the sharing of political seats between the Embu and the Mbeere communities.

They revisited a memorandum of understanding signed in January 2012 in which the Embu side was to produce a governor and the Mbeere side a senator.

The pact was supposed to last for 10 years. In a rare show of unity, seven elders have come together to form an umbrella council of elders dubbed Embu Nyangi-Ngome Council of Elders.

Speaking after the unveiling of the outfit, the elders' spokesman, Benson Kanyeji, noted that the sharing of seats would help avoid animosity between the two communities.

Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire said such an agreement is difficult to implement since many aspirants from both sides are seeking the gubernatorial and the senatorial seats.
