FKF Division Two Northern Zone League kicks off on March 15, 2017, with community clubs enjoying a life line after the league format was revised to make it affordable.

Speaking to club officials during a meeting at Royal Court Hotel in Mombasa, which was attended by 17 clubs, FKF South Coast Branch Chairman Gabriel Mgendi, who doubles as the Northern Zone Committee vice chairman, said most clubs were community clubs which depend on well-wishers.

Thus, it was paramount to do the zoning according to the regions for the purpose of logistics. “As you are aware, the main challenge faced by our clubs is lack of money.

Last season, a number of clubs failed to honour away matches due to financial constraints, while one of the clubs was detained over nonpayment of hotel bills. I had to send my personal contribution that assisted in bailing out the club,” said Mgendi.
