Manchester United’s Old Trafford is on FIRE – although emergency services have the situation under control, according to the sun.

Authorities in charge say that a faulty lift sparked a blaze in the motor room.

Firefighters are currently on the scene and have the situation under control – checking that the rest of the stadium is safe.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service told the Manchester Evening News: “We were called at 6.58am to Sir Matt Busby Way.

“Three fire engines from Manchester, Salford and Stretford attended the scene.

“We have isolated the electrics and extinguished the fire using breathing apparatus and a CO2 fire extinguisher.

“We are still on the scene.”

Twitter user Sarah Louise Feeney pictured the incident this morning.

Posting a picture that shows smoke emerging from the stadium, she wrote: “Fire at Old Trafford in South Stand.

“Fire alarm going off since 7am and smoke!”

With a capacity of 75,643, Old Trafford is the largest club stadium of any football team in the United Kingdom, the third-largest stadium and the second-largest football stadium in the United Kingdom, and the eleventh-largest in Europe.
