CORD has issued fresh demands to the electoral agency following a spate of anomalies in the ongoing voter registration.

This comes after CORD leader Raila Odinga discovered another person had been registered using his national identity card number.

Yesterday, CORD management committee co-chairs senators James Orengo (Siaya), Johnstone Muthama (Machakos) and Eseli Simiyu (Tongaren) demanded that the planned audit of the voter register be conducted by an internationally recognised firm.

The trio said both Raila and his co-principal and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s IDs had been used to register other voters.

DOUBLE REGISTRATION

Raila first discovered his ID was used to register one Ms Ombai Maria Anyango.

And yesterday, while on a tour in Kilifi County to mobilise voters to register, Raila yet again discovered that Maureen Anyango Ambayo had been registered using his ID number in Mtwapa, Kilifi County.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) yesterday revealed there were 128,926 cases of double registration across the country.

And now the Opposition is demanding that the commission demonstrates to Kenyans the steps it is taking towards the realisation of a biometric audit of the voter register in line with the Election Laws Amendment Act 2016.

“If the commission wishes to build trust and confidence amongst all stakeholders ahead of the forthcoming elections, they have to conduct the business of election preparation in an open and transparent manner,” said the trio in a statement sent to newsrooms.
