The National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) now wants the two-thirds gender rule factored into the composition of members of the new Climate Change Council.

The commission said climate change issues were affecting all counties and called on President Uhuru Kenyatta, who will chair the council, to make sure women were factored in.

NGEC chairperson Winfred Lichuma said the Constitution was very clear on gender parity, adding that the members of the council should reflect the law.

"I'm calling on the President to make sure that when he names members of the board next week, he should factor in women as enshrined in the law," she said.
