GITHERE KEEPS MOMENTUM GOING: Nyali golfer wows crowd with awesome strokes to win title

Nyali’s Jayne Githere braved strong winds from the nearby Indian Ocean to win the 2016 December Medal at the par 71 sea-link Mombasa course over the weekend.

Playing off handicap 19, Githere posted 77 nett to beat a team of 75 ladies and claim victory in the Division One category during the one-day event sponsored by Anthony Getambu.

Home club’s handicap 36 Susan Mwangi was the Division Two winner on 74 nett.

N.Ngugi, playing off handicap 0, posted 70 nett to win the Mug section, while handicap 17 Jacob Murimi, also from the home club, was the Division Two winner on 75 nett.

Handicap 28 Pyra Singh, who had a score of 70 nett, won the Division Three title.

Meanwhile, home club's handicap 13 Ndiga Kithae, who played 23-14 in both nines for 37 points, won the 2016 Chairman's (Charles Ngunjiri) prize tournament at the par 72 Thika Sports club course.

Kithae’s victory came after he sunk two back-to-back rare birdies on the first-par five hole and the second par four holes.

He then rolled six level pars and played mixed bogey shots on the other holes as he defeated over 145 golfers in the one-day event.

“I have not been playing golf for a while, but this win is really great," said Kithae.

Club mate Stanley Mugwe, playing off handicap 9, was the Men Winner on 33 points (15-18), while Mariah Muthee, who had 32 points, was the Lady winner.

Samuel Muiruri, playing off handicap 13, was the Executive winner on 31 points (11-20), while handicap 13, Moses Gatonye on 30 points (16-14), won the Sponsor’s title.

Handicap 8 Simon Ngugi on 22 points, won the junior prize, while Ruiru's handicap 21 F.N.Njuguna won the Guest prize with 35 points.

At the Karen course, the club’s captain Clive Davis posted 77 gross to emerge the gross winner in the Hemingway's December 2016 Mug event.

Peter Kanyago, on 37 points, was the Division A winner, while Vincent Rague, who had 41 points, won in Division B. Cephas Osoro, on 39 points ruled in Division C.

At the par 71 Muthaiga course, Dennis Muriithi posted 41 points to win the Peter Githua foundation tournament.

Mahesh Mavji, who had 39 points, was the Men Winner, while Rose Kigwe took the Lady’s title on 38 points.
