KORIR PACED FOR WIFE?Rio report states Cherangany MP left Team Kenya camp for Canada without permission

Cherangany Member of Parliament Wesley Korir has been accused of leaving the Rio Olympic Games camp without permission to ‘pace set’ for his wife in the Ottawa Marathon.

Korir’s wife was apparently chasing Olympic qualifying time. A probe report into the Rio Olympic Games says this action affected Korir who failed to finish his race.

“Korir played the role of pacemaker for 41km out of 42km, which was equivalent to running a full marathon.

“With only a few weeks to the Olympics, the athlete could not recover enough to run the marathon in Rio, considering the distance he had covered and the long travel in between,” says the report.

Korir who fiercely criticised National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) officials over the handling of the games, dropped out of the marathon citing “water mix-up” along the course.
