A fisherman was attacked and killed by a hippo in Lake Naivasha as cases of human-wildlife conflict rise.

The man succumbed to injuries at the Naivasha Sub-county Hospital. His colleague escaped narrowly after the lone animal also attacked him during a fishing expedition along South Lake.

The two were setting up their nets along the shores of the lake when the animal moved in, crushing the fisherman’s leg before going for his colleague.

A witness, Peter Kamau, said the second man escaped with minor injuries to his hands and sought help from other fishermen.
