Republican Donald Trump has just been elected the 45th President of the United States of America – but Donald he could have been Rangers owner four years ago, according to The Sun.

In 2012, the President-elect considered a swoop for the Ibrox club before Craig Whyte took over and plunged them into administration and liquidation.

It is believed Trump, who has Scottish roots, decided against the takeover after gauging the financial risk.

Speaking at the time a source close to Trump said: “We looked seriously and walked away.

“It just did not make sense to us, although they are a great club.

“We hope someone steps in and builds the team again.”

Republican Donald Trump claimed his place Wednesday (9/11/16) as America’s 45th President.

In the last months of campaigning, the controversial businessman and political novice capitalized on voters’ economic anxieties, took advantage of racial tensions and overcame a string of sexual assault allegations on his way to the White House.

His historic victory over Clinton will end eight years of Democratic dominance of the White House.
