Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairman Sam Nyamweya is a delighted man ahead of Harambee Starlets’ participation in the Africa Women Nations Cup (AWCON) to be held in Cameroon.

Nyamweya wished the team success and said his administration had set the foundation for the current performance.

“This is a moment of pride for me and my administration since we were elected in 2011 because we had the vision for women’s football and we soldiered on, often under extremely difficult circumstances.

“But I believed in the ability of our women to perform as well, if not better than, the men,” he said.

He praised the current FKF boss Nick Mwendwa for not interfering with the technical bench.

“It is noteworthy that my successor did not interfere with the structure of the team when they took over, meaning the consistency of the players and the technical bench maintained the rhythm and momentum they had built over time.”

He urged the whole country to rally behind the Starlets at the AWCON finals.
