Police should borrow a leaf from the IEBC and move to biometric kits

The Kenya Police Service has finally joined the electronic service delivery bandwagon. The citizens can now access police clearance services online.

Unlike the sensitization carried out by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) during the introduction of driving licence online renewal, the police have done little or nothing on this front.

Personally, I only came to know about the e-clearance when I visited the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road. And from the number of people in the queues representing different stages of the application process, it was apparent that very few people had prior knowledge of the online process. The fingerprint ink belongs to the 19th century.

In this regard, the police should borrow a leaf from the IEBC, which registers voters using biometric equipment. This is a long-lasting solution.
